Superintendent outlines start-of-year operations, $12M planning grant pursuit, AI guidance and aquatic center talks

"We can now track exactly how many copies are going out per billing per department or person," Maxwell said.
On facilities, Maxwell said the district plans to apply for a state small-schools construction planning grant and is "eligible up to 12,000,000" to survey and prioritize projects. The superintendent listed potential projects such as boiler and HVAC upgrades in multiple buildings and said the district will work with CSG (Construction Services Group) on an initial planning survey.
On academic policy, the board discussed the family/student handbook and located academic dishonesty language in the handbook and PHS addendum. Maxwell proposed convening an AI task force of staff from elementary through high school to draft guidelines before imposing a formal policy, noting that tools and use-cases vary greatly by grade level.
Finally, Maxwell updated the board on an interlocal agreement with the city to operate the Aquatic Center: the district issued the notice required by the interlocal agreement to begin renegotiation discussions over operating costs and service terms, not to terminate the agreement. A city press release, Maxwell said, had suggested the district intended to void the interlocal; board members emphasized their intent was to open discussions about cost and operations. Amanda Tanner clarified the board's intent, saying the goal was renegotiation rather than cancellation.
