Pullman board opens applications for DEIB task force, seeks student and community members

The Pullman School District board announced an application process for a new diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) task force and asked students and the community to apply.
Board members said the application opened on Aug. 21 and will close Sept. 16, with an open meeting set for Sept. 25 to review submissions and appoint members. The board envisions a roughly seven-member task force composed of one staff member, three community members and one nonparticipating board liaison who will attend to provide context; Craig volunteered to act as the board liaison and the president will serve as an alternate.
Superintendent Dr. Maxwell and board members asked the ASB student representative to help publicize the application through ParentSquare and other channels. Board staff reported that as of the meeting they had received 13 applications: three PHS students, six parents/guardians, and one Pullman School District staff member among the submissions.
Board members said they expect the group to meet a few times in the autumn and again in spring as needed, and that the exact time commitment will be decided by the appointed members. The board described the task force as a review and advisory body the board can use to solicit community perspective and task with discrete reviews or recommendations.
