Councilor McDonald says he will not seek reelection

Councilor McDonald told colleagues he will not be a candidate in the upcoming November election but intends to serve through the end of his current term.
"I'm gonna go ahead and announce that I'm gonna go ahead and announce that I'm not going to be running for reelection this November," Councilor McDonald said, explaining that family and other commitments make it difficult to continue on the ballot though he will finish his term. He said his five years on the council had been educational and thanked staff and fellow councilors for the experience.
The mayor and several councilors expressed appreciation for McDonald’s service. Councilor Patty said she had valued his voice and perspectives during his five years on the council.
McDonald said he did not want to create extra work for staff or the council by leaving early; he plans to serve until his term expires in January.
