Talent staff outline stormwater work and upcoming Gateway concept presentations

City staff told the Talent City Council on Oct. 2 that work continues on a Rogue Valley stormwater facility at the south end of a private parking lot and that the city posted project details to its website after contacting Rogue Valley Sewer Services to address community questions and rumors. "We found that very little information seems to be out in the community about what's going on there, and we've received a number of questions and rumors about what's going on. So, we contacted Rogue Valley, Sewer Services and obtained information about the project. I placed it on the city's website," the city manager said.
Staff also described a planning process tied to grant conditions for the Gateway site. They said a preliminary stormwater plan covering the Gateway site, Gangnes Road and the Wagner extension is required as a precondition for the grant award and should be completed by October. Staff asked council feedback on two concept plans prepared with Salazar Architects and noted Walker and Macy materials will be included; the presentation will place the two plans side by side to help the council decide which concept to advance into an RFP. Staff said they provided the plan that yields the most impervious coverage to consultants to ensure conservative stormwater estimates.
City staff also announced an Oct. 12 open house at City Hall for the public to review proposed changes to the park master plan; members of the planning commission and staff will be available to answer questions from noon to 2 p.m.
Next steps include the Salazar Architects presentation to the council, finalizing impervious‑area assumptions for the stormwater master plan and completing the preliminary stormwater plan required for grant processing.
