Vanderburgh County’s Personnel and Finance Committee on Oct. 30 advanced discussion of routine appropriations covering personnel and operating costs across departments.
Committee members reviewed an appropriations ordinance to cover part-time help and raises already granted in December, and noted an election supplies item that may require extra staff or security for the upcoming election. Staff said the clerk’s office included an offsetting repeal so the net budget effect is zero.
The jail budget request seeks additional funds to cover overtime, FICA and shift differential through year-end; staff cited a remaining balance of about $150,000. The county’s transcript expense line rose after an increase in appeals and higher per-page costs for court reporters.
Personnel changes include step increases at Bernette Park across maintenance and administrative positions totaling $12,149. The auditor requested $2,000 for code publishing. The county assessor originally requested $65,000 to purchase two new motor vehicles but later withdrew the request from the 2025 budget, noting the purchase could be made in the current year to save money. The county clerk submitted a $14,000 repeal request.
No final appropriations were approved at the Oct. 30 meeting; most items were moved forward with the understanding staff provided the rationale and some items will return for formal action.
