Port director highlights chapel opening, Wharf project and cruise-terminal progress

Director Monique Moyer told the Commission that several operational and community items were progressing. The Fisherman's and Seaman's Memorial Chapel in Fisherman's Wharf will be open to the public Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; historically it had been appointment-only, and the chapel is seeking volunteers (volunteer contact provided on the record). "It is a wonderful sanctuary," the Director said, noting the chapel honors San Francisco fishermen, seamen, and community members who contributed to the waterfront.

Moyer also reported that the Brandon Street Wharf Project advanced with a major concrete pour and that crews will now undertake seawall and promenade repairs that require using one lane of the Embarcadero. Staff said the northbound lane from Pier 38 past Brandon Street to Bryant Street will be closed for about three weeks; the work is being expedited to protect the waterfront against rising sea levels.

On the cruise terminal, Moyer said phase 1 of the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27 (core and shell) is nearly complete and will host America's Cup Village events. She announced a ribbon-cutting on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 11:30 a.m. with Mayor Lee. "Phase 1 will be conclusion of the core and shell of the building," she said, and staff thanked Port and contractor teams for progress.

The remarks concluded the Executive Director's report; the Commission asked no public-substantive follow-up beyond the announcement and moved to the next agenda item.
