Aldermen approve small budget amendment to cover fleet maintenance overages

Raytown’s Board of Aldermen approved a resolution Sept. 3 to amend the fiscal year budget to cover fleet maintenance overages in the Public Works Department.
Public Works staff told the board the fleet-maintenance line has exceeded its budget by about $55,000 because the department has been one mechanic short and has had to outsource some repairs. Staff proposed offsetting the shortfall by transferring funds from a public-works line for water repairs that had not been used this year. Camp (public works) said the transfer is an internal adjustment within the Public Works budget rather than a city-wide reallocation.
Aldermen asked about an item in the background that referenced the “Raytown Water Department”; staff clarified the correct name is the Raytown Water Company and that the background text — not the resolution itself — contained the wording. The council moved, seconded and approved the budget amendment by roll call vote.
