Superintendent Dr. Jay explained the paperwork for the course had been completed at the site level but "for whatever reason... it was not submitted with those courses," and the district's attorney advised bringing the course to the board for retroactive approval so the class could continue without interruption. Dr. Jay told the board the swim course is currently meeting and is being taught by Patty Schultz, described in the packet as the district's middle school PE teacher who is also instructing the course.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the course'7s relationship to athletic teams and whether prerequisites or course guide language requiring team membership should be removed. Dr. Jay and staff said the highlighted "team" language appears to be clerical and that the district will update the course guide to reflect accurate prerequisites. A motion to approve the retroactive course passed on a recorded voice tally reported as 4-0.
What happens next: administration will update the course guide language to remove the erroneous team prerequisite and publish the revised guide.
