DALESVILLE, Ind. — The Dalesville Fire American Commission on Aug. 13 approved payments related to its 2024 lieutenant promotional process, certified the final eligibility list and heard a report from the department chief on recent academy graduates.
In procedural action early in the meeting, commissioners corrected a date in the minutes for a prior meeting to July 9. Unidentified Speaker 1 moved to amend the minutes to correct the date; the motion was seconded and the minutes were approved as corrected. Unidentified Speaker 1 referred to the error as a "Scribner's error." Commissioner Big was identified in the meeting transcript as the source of a related motion and Commissioner Dickinson was recorded as the second for that motion.
The commission approved a claim of $8,600 to cover a lieutenant promotional test. Unidentified Speaker 1 moved to approve the payment, a second was recorded, and the motion passed with a recorded outcome of 5-0 in favor.
The commission also approved three invoices, dated July 31, 2024, each for $1,000 submitted by Isaacs, Roberts and McCutcheon for services related to the lieutenant exams (total $3,000). A participant asked about a line item on the Isaacs invoice that listed $500 for a promotion interview; another participant clarified that Isaacs was paid $500 per day and worked two days. The three invoices were moved, seconded and approved.
During "Report from the chief," the department chief said the latest recruits graduated and began station duty in staggered groups over consecutive days, and that the department plans to continue using Ivy Tech for future graduation ceremonies because of its capacity. "They graduated... they all began in the station yesterday," the chief said, summarizing the staffing start dates.
For new business, the commission opened and certified the final results of the 2024 lieutenant promotional process. The list contained 17 candidates; Unidentified Speaker 1 moved to approve and certify the results, a second was made, and commissioners voted in favor. The commission signed and dated the eligibility list during the meeting.
