Evansville Police Pension Board accepts executive-session applicants, records payroll and schedules next meeting

The Evansville Police Department Pension Board on Sept. 11, 2024 accepted applicants heard in executive session, approved its minutes and recorded payroll figures and a sizable forthcoming reimbursement.
Secretary Rick Hubbard reported payroll for Aug. 15 was $255,117.62 and for Aug. 31 was $243,117.62. "The city will receive by October 2 a total of $5,788,896 in reimbursement from the employees pension relief fund," Hubbard said. The board did not record individual vote tallies; motions were adopted by voice vote.
Chief of Police Phil Smith moved to accept applicants listed as 24-048033, 23-078 and 24-076 from the executive session; member Brian Underwood seconded the motion, and the board approved it. The board also approved minutes from the Aug. 7 meeting on a motion by active member Tony Zimmer, seconded by Underwood.
Secretary Hubbard informed the board that retired officer Charles R. Miller passed away on July 7, 2024, and asked that Miller be removed from the payroll. Member Smith moved to remove Miller; Tony Zimmer seconded and the motion passed.
Hubbard also recorded administrative personnel changes: Officer Gerald McConnell (badge 1175) was listed as honorably retired effective Sept. 12, 2024 after 29 years and 1 day of service (member of the 1977 fund). Officer Steven Wilcher (badge 1541) submitted a resignation effective Sept. 4, 2024 after 2 years, 7 months and 11 days of service.
Treasurer Robert Gunter moved to adjourn the meeting; member Brian Underwood seconded. The board adjourned at 8:54 a.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024 at 8:15 a.m. in Room 307 at Civic Center Plaza.
