Woodbridge council honors Donna Brightman on retirement; summer events and youth registration announced

On July 2 the Woodbridge Town Council recognized Donna Brightman on her retirement after 24 years as executive director of the Woodbridge Housing Authority.
Councilwoman De Jesus described Brightman's record of service, saying Brightman led a team of roughly 50 people, coordinated services for families, seniors and disabled residents, created resident training and employment programs, and helped develop housing sites including Maple Tree Manor, Red Oak and Green Oak Manor.
"For 24 years, she served as the executive director of the Woodbridge Housing Authority, where she led a diversified team of 50," Councilwoman De Jesus said, praising Brightman's work on programs for families, seniors and low-income homeownership opportunities.
Council members also used the meeting to share community announcements: registration opened for the Woodbridge Golden Saints youth football program (flag levels K–2; tackle levels 3–8) at goldensaints.org; the Woodbridge Pizza Run is scheduled for July 17 with check-in at Alvin P. Williams Park; and the farmers market runs Saturdays at 400 Railway Avenue. Finance staff announced seven new police officers will be sworn in tomorrow at the Acacia Center, including Thomas Bauer, son of Councilman Bauer.
The council offered thanks to public works and emergency services for recent repairs and urged residents to take safety precautions around holiday events.
