Coweta County board approves 2025–26 and 2026–27 calendars, revised dual-enrollment policy and consent items

Superintendent (presenter) told the board that public input was solicited for the calendars, with 3,289 survey respondents and calendar option 1 favored. The board approved the calendars on a motion; the chair declared the motion carries 7–0.
The board also approved a revised Policy IDCH governing dual enrollment. The superintendent said the policy was reviewed at last month's meeting, posted for 30 days for public review and updated to comply with a new state law and State Board rules; the board approved the revised policy by a 7–0 voice vote.
Welch Elementary School PTO requested approval to purchase and install playground equipment. The superintendent said the project is funded by the PTO and the total cost is $11,000; the board approved the request 7–0.
The board approved two field trips: East Coweta High School JROTC to attend a three-day orientation at Parris Island, South Carolina, March 18–20, 2025 (students will miss three school days; no cost to the school system), and Newnan High School indoor winds and percussion band to compete at Winter Guard International Southeast Regional in Chattanooga, Tenn., on March 1, 2025 (no missed school days; district cost limited to bus transportation). Both trips were approved by voice vote, motion carries 7–0.
The board previously approved the Oct. 8 minutes with one abstention (Mrs. Deese); that motion was recorded as 6 in favor with one abstention. The meeting later voted 7–0 to enter executive session to discuss personnel, real estate and potential litigation.
Board members did not debate changes to the calendars or the policy at length during this meeting; the superintendent noted the calendar process included public input and the policy had been posted for public review prior to approval.
