Fairview council authorizes interim manager to start finance director recruitment; resident and mayor praise utility crews

Fairview — The Fairview City Council voted to authorize the interim city manager to complete the hiring process for the vacant finance director position and to involve council members in the interview process. The interim city manager told the council the position is being advertised and that the first application review date is set for Sept. 23.
The interim city manager said interviews were not yet scheduled and that regional experts may be asked to provide input. He emphasized that, as interim manager, he does not have unilateral hiring authority "unless it's provided for by resolution of the council," which is why the council’s authorization was requested. The mayor and council seconded the motion and approved the resolution (recorded on the audio as "resolution 48-2024").
Earlier in the meeting, resident Aaron Wheeler thanked city staff and utility crews — naming "John" and other crew members — for responding over a holiday weekend to shut down and reconfigure water connections to buildings that had been disconnected and to keep services running. Wheeler said he and the local board of directors will work with the city in coming months to restore damaged property.
Mayor Kudrinet echoed the thanks and praised public works for keeping the reservoir full and maintaining water and sewer service during the incident, saying crews went "above and beyond" on a holiday weekend. The meeting concluded after routine approval of minutes, the consent agenda (with one item moved to council business) and a motion to adjourn.
