Benjamin Davies (first referenced at SEG 064) addressed the council during visitor business to urge reconsideration of a planned new parking lot on the downtown square (Spring Street). Davies said the green space had been a community amenity for children and families and suggested alternatives, including improved use of existing parking behind nearby businesses, handicap parking near sidewalks, or a multifunctional space that serves parking needs by day and a lighted recreational area by night.
Davies, speaking as a local resident and noting his experience on the YMCA board, said the town has an opportunity to create a recreational downtown asset that could host youth activities, support nearby businesses, and be used for festivals and fundraisers. He asked council to reconsider the space and weigh hybrid designs before it is fully converted to vehicle parking.
Council acknowledged the comment and continued with the agenda.
