The Talent City Council directed staff to hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to the Chuck Roberts Park master plan and to revisit the Parks & Recreation Commission’s recommendations after public input.
Parks staff said the commission recommended several changes and provided a map showing the proposed placement of amenities, including a large-dog area. Council discussion focused on the size of the large-dog area (originally 0.83 acres, redrawn to 0.87 or 1.0 acre in different iterations) and on preserving existing walking paths and landscaping. The parks chair and design staff explained the changes were intended to balance community use and design standards for large-dog parks.
Councilors asked for more community outreach before a final vote: suggestions included an open house in the council chamber for informal feedback, an FAQ posted on the city website, additional Facebook outreach, and special focus on questions about funding, pickleball and skate-park priorities. Council also discussed a separate ordinance change to allow leashed dogs on paths in Chuck Roberts Park; staff agreed to draft ordinance language for the council after Parks Commission review.
Councilor Byers moved to direct staff to hold a public hearing on the Chuck Roberts Park master-plan update and to revisit the Parks Commission recommendation after the hearing; the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff will prepare outreach materials (FAQ, notice, map), host an informational open-house opportunity and schedule the public hearing as part of the council process.
