Stevenson seniors outreach: students present 'Prism' project on medication safety to village board

Three Stevenson High School seniors introduced Prism — Prescription Related Issues and Safety Management — and asked the board to help spread awareness about incorrect or missed prescriptions and the consequences for patients and the health system.
“Through Prism, we work on spreading awareness about the little known issue of missed prescriptions and how it affects patients and physicians alike,” said Shiloh Pochiraju. The students said their outreach focuses on three pillars: mental and physical health effects, mistrust in the health‑care system and substance abuse they link to medication errors.
They said they previously spoke to Vernon Hills seniors, will present again on Dec. 3 and plan to distribute flyers with self‑advocacy steps for seniors to take when picking up prescriptions. The students said they have social media channels and a Linktree and are working with community contacts including John Petrillo, Lynn Bridal and Mike Storto to expand outreach.
Trustees and attendees asked about pharmacy relationships, app development and liability; the students said they do not currently partner with drugstores and are developing an app with outside help. Trustees praised the students’ awards in HOSA competition and encouraged continued engagement with seniors.
