St. Joseph council approves consent agenda, greenlights grants and equipment purchases

The St. Joseph City Council approved its agenda and voted to adopt a broad consent package that included grant agreements, budget amendments and several capital- and operations-related ordinances.

The consent agenda, approved by roll call with nine ayes, included: an ordinance amending chapter 5, section 5‑102 (cremation services and fees); an amendment to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) fund to roll forward a $17,225.09 commercial façade improvement grant and execution of a grant agreement for work at 1415 Frederick Avenue; a $249,689 CDBG amendment and a HOME Investment Partnership Program agreement with Community Action Partnership of Greater St. Joseph for construction of a single‑family home at 814 North Fifth Street; and an agreement for commercial plan review services not to exceed $30,000.

The consent items also included a $9,514.01 donation and budget amendment to install modular carpet tile at the Bode Ice Arena; a police sales tax fund reallocation of $121,705 and authorization to purchase handguns and related supplies with total handgun-related purchases noted as $261,000; a municipal court judge salary amendment requiring a $6,630 general fund appropriation; and several change orders and grant applications (amounts specified in the Clerk’s reading).

Council approved the consent package without separate discussion. The Clerk read each ordinance and resolution into the record before the roll-call vote.

The motion to accept the consent agenda was made and seconded as recorded in the meeting minutes; the Clerk recorded nine ayes and the motion carried. No public comments were made on these items at the meeting.
