District expands Project Lead The Way STEM kits; plans rollout to all schools

Mr. Bell, presenting on behalf of the district career-and-college team, described Project Lead The Way (PLTW) as a curricular partner that supplies hands-on materials for engineering and biomedical education. "Project Lead the Way is an interesting little company," he said, and explained that the program brings pathway-relevant projects to students beginning in fifth grade and continuing through middle and high school.
Bell said PLTW helps teachers deliver problem-solving projects aligned to academic standards and that the district has worked with state legislators to purchase additional kits. District staff reported a planned rollout to increase kit availability so that every school will have PLTW materials over the next two years; trustees and some parents present praised the program for boosting student engagement in STEM.
The board heard a parent anecdote about robotics and student excitement at PLTW classes; no formal action was taken.
