Cleveland County swears in commissioner, recognizes state-champion volleyball team and names advisory committee members

The Cleveland County Board of Commissioners used part of its Jan. 16 meeting for an oath, a proclamation and several advisory-board appointments.
Commissioner Harding was sworn in to serve on the Catawba Indian Nation Foundation Board of Directors after the administering official recited the oath of office; Harding said she was honored and looked forward to serving. The chair noted the appointment had been made by the governor.
Commissioner Hutchins presented the Kings Mountain High School Lady Mountaineers and their coaches and read a proclamation recognizing the team's 2023 NCHSAA 3A state championship. The proclamation, read into the record, listed the players and coaches and the board adopted the resolution congratulating the team.
The board also approved several advisory appointments by voice vote: two members to the Adult Care Home Advisory Committee (Phyllis Williams and Derek Chambers) for initial one-year terms; three members to the Nursing Home Advisory Committee (Linda Putnam, Elaine Champion and Donna Buies) for three-year terms; and five members to the Veterans Advisory Council (Valerie McCoy, Julie Crocs, Marion Pine, Rick Olaf and Joseph Collins) for three-year terms. Each slate was moved, seconded and approved unanimously.
What this does
The oath formalizes Commissioner Harding's appointment to the Catawba Indian Nation Foundation Board. The proclamation is an honorary recognition adopted by the board. The advisory committee appointments fill seats the county requires to advise on long-term care and veterans issues.
