Evansville board opens demolition bids, approves emergency demolition after storm damage

At its Oct. 23 meeting the Evansville Board of Public Safety opened demolition bids for multiple properties and approved an emergency demolition after storm-related structural damage.
Kim, representing the building commission, asked the board to open demolition bids for properties including 916 West Illinois Street, 616 East Illinois Street (fire-damaged), 815 South Elliott Street, 1424 Cody Street, 915 North Fourth Avenue (garage only), and 832 Lincoln Avenue (house with asbestos roof and cistern). Bids were opened and low bidders were identified for each site; Kim recommended taking the bids under advisement.
The board also approved an emergency demolition at 135 Harriet Street after a fallen tree caused the chimney to separate from the house, creating a safety hazard. Kim additionally requested authorization to advertise RFPs to remediate and clean up the Morton Avenue Warehouse site; the board approved advertising the RFPs.
Low-bid results for excavation and demolition work were read into the record and the board voted to take those bids under advisement pending review.
Next steps: staff will evaluate bids for the demolition projects and return with award recommendations; emergency demolition on Harriet Street was authorized to proceed.
