Evansville board opens and awards multiple equipment bids, accepts laptop and command-vehicle offers

The board accepted Midwest Public Safety's bid of $2,967.54 per unit to supply up to 40 rugged Getac laptops for the police department, after the attorney read two bids. "They are, would charge $2,967.54 per computer," the attorney said when announcing Midwest's submission. A motion to accept Midwest's bid passed.
On police fleet procurement, the attorney announced a single bid from John Jones Auto Group of $36,311 each for five unmarked sedans. Board members voted to take that submission "under advisement" and requested clearer information on vehicle make and model before final action.
For fire department vehicles, the board opened bids for six command units. John Jones Auto Group submitted a sole bid at $36,666 per unit (a total of $219,996 without delivery). The board approved the award "without delivery."
The purchasing director, Sasha Streeter, told the board she would advertise APA012024 to solicit towing and storage proposals for nuisance, wrecked, abandoned and impounded vehicles; she said the ad was set to run Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 if approved. "I am requesting permission to advertise for ... towing and storage of nuisance, wrecked, abandoned, and impounded vehicles," Streeter said. The board approved the advertisement.
The board also approved a request to surplus seven vehicles as listed on the agenda and voted to approve other routine bid openings taken that day. Several construction and renovation bids for Fire Station 16 were opened and will be taken under advisement pending further review.
Next steps: staff will return with recommended award details (vehicle models and final bid tabulations) for the sedan procurement once information is verified; the laptop and command-vehicle awards will move forward under the board's approved terms.
