The Pullman School District board announced the formation of a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) task force and sketched an initial workflow for that group's work.
Board members said they ran an application process and vetted candidates; the board reported nine appointments including four student representatives, one administrator, one staff member, three community members and two board members. Craig volunteered to lead the task force and said the group will receive a list of 3–5 initial work items from the board at its first meeting.
Trustees discussed practical expectations for the task force. Suggested first tasks included auditing existing school and district DEIB activities to identify successful practices that could be expanded, reviewing the district reporting/complaint forms and process for accessibility and clarity, and identifying community partnerships or programs that could support students experiencing inequities.
The board also agreed on a reporting workflow: the task force will meet and report back to the board; the board's equity update slot on the agenda will be used to receive status updates and to spin off substantive recommendations as discussion items for full board consideration.
What happens next: the board chair will finalize the list of initial tasks, circulate those to trustees for quick approval, and Craig will convene the task force to begin work and set meeting times. Trustees discussed a monthly or bimonthly reporting rhythm depending on the task load.
