The Community High School District 218 Board of Education approved a series of fiscal and construction actions at its Oct. 17 meeting in Oak Lawn that together advance planned facility work and ratified emergency repairs at Eisenhower High School.
On finance and funding, the board voted to direct the administration to prepare the 2024 property tax levy and to present an estimate for the levy. The motion was moved and seconded and recorded voice responses (Mister Reyes: yes; Miss Hunt: yes; Miss Contello: yes; Miss Collier: yes; Mister Kozowski: aye). Chair announced the motion carried.
The board also approved two permanent interfund transfers to consolidate bond proceeds and other balances into the capital projects fund: one transferring money from the Education Fund to the Capital Projects Fund and a second transferring funds from the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Fund to the Capital Projects Fund. The chair said each item had been reviewed previously by committee before the votes. Recorded votes were taken and the chair announced each motion carried.
Financial committee members told the board they had received bond proceeds into the O&M fund "about $7,004,000," which they said would be moved into the construction fund to create roughly $37,004,000 for phase 1 of planned building work. The construction manager’s estimates for phase 1 were reported at about $32,000,000, leaving an approximate $5,000,000 cushion for contingencies, according to committee comments.
On procurement, the board approved recommendation bid number 15O8 for renovations to the Eisenhower High School auditorium and field house addition and for renovations to the Shepherd High School auditorium. The motion to bring the recommendation to the floor was moved, seconded and approved after committee review.
Separately, the board ratified emergency repairs to underground steam piping at Eisenhower High School. Chair noted the piping broke underground and that "the board is approving the work has already been done" because it was an emergency. The board voted to approve the emergency repair resolution and the secretary recorded affirmative votes (Mister Raddis: yes; Miss Hunt: yes; Miss Contello: aye; Miss Collier: aye; Mister Kozowski: aye). The chair announced the motion carried.
All items were presented as action items previously reviewed in committee; the board approved them by recorded voice responses at the meeting. The meeting closed after routine announcements and board member comments.
