CHSD 218 honors National Merit scholars from Richards and Shepherd

Community High School District 218’s board of education honored several students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program at its Oct. 17 meeting in Oak Lawn.
Mister McPartland, speaking for the board’s resolutions and commendations, said: "Each year, National Merit recognizes high school students who perform exceptionally on the preliminary scholastic aptitude test, also known as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test." He read the list of honorees, saying Shepherd seniors Jacob Kayser, Brandon Crohn's and Logan Wright, and Richards seniors Nathan Lindsay and Alan Huang were named National Merit Commended Students, and that Shepherd senior Ben Whitney had earned National Merit semifinalist status. The board offered formal congratulations to the students and their families.
The board approved the resolutions and commendations by unanimous voice vote. Several board members individually congratulated the students during the meeting.
The recognitions were presented early in the meeting under the "Resolutions and Commendations" agenda item. The board invited award recipients to leave if they wished after the vote or stay for the remainder of the meeting.
