Council authorizes steps to acquire property from North Shore Water Reclamation District

The Zion City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city to "take all steps necessary" to complete a purchase of specified real property from the North Shore Water Reclamation District. City attorney Jimmy Fazeli told the council the city first entered an agreement with the district more than 15 years ago concerning approximately 411 acres; the agreement has been amended multiple times and the city is close to closing the transaction.
Fazeli said the authorization covers executing an escrow agreement, paying for title insurance and a survey, executing deeds and any closing documents necessary to transfer the property and permit development. Councilmember Fisher moved the resolution, which was seconded and approved on roll-call vote with all present voting aye.
Fazeli and council members clarified the city is not purchasing the entire 411 acres; the previous agreement allowed the city to reject unbuildable portions and accept the remainder for purchase. Staff described the approval as necessary to finalize the closing and enable future development planning.
