The Evansville City board on Aug. 15 approved requests for barricades, signage and right‑of‑way permits for multiple community events while clarifying which closures still required certificates of insurance (COI) and Evansville Police Department (EPD) approval.
Items approved or presented included: Evansville African American Museum Emancipation Festival (parking/closure of Garvin from Lincoln to Bauer Road on Aug. 10); City Church outdoor movie night (pending COI/EPD); Swarka & Moore Brewfest (pending COI); Evansville Pickle Festival (Sept. 6–8); Zion MBC block party (pending COI/EPD); Annunciation Parish picnic; and the Huntsville Rescue Mission Drumstick Dash (map clarification noted). Unidentified Speaker (S8) clarified that items 1, 6 and 7 had already been approved by the Board of Public Works for street closures; items 2–5 were still awaiting COI and EPD sign‑off.
The board amended the item as needed, then moved and approved the package by voice vote.
Why this matters: these approvals allow neighborhood and cultural events to proceed under city permitting and public‑safety oversight; pending COIs and EPD approvals are typical prerequisites before finalizing street closures.
