Commissioners rezone two Battleground Road parcels from light industrial to general business

Cleveland County commissioners voted Nov. 12 to rezone two adjoining parcels on Battleground Road (parcels 10531 and 10539, about 5 acres total) from light industrial to general business.
Staff member Chris said the parcels sit near Interstate 85, next to existing general business zoning and a new campground under construction; the planning board recommended approval and staff described the request as an extension of an existing general business district. No members of the public signed up to speak during the public hearing.
Commissioners noted the parcels include vacant buildings that have been unused for some time and said rezoning could allow new uses that strengthen the tax base. A motion to approve was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
