Houston Public Schools board approves adjusted budget, milk-price increase and election filing dates; accepts resignation

An administration speaker summarized the change: “When they came out with that after the legislative session, they didn’t have things right in the projection model … and so now that they’ve corrected that we ended up with quite a bit more revenue.” The adjusted budget discussion noted an ending fund-balance figure of $353,917 and a fund-balance percentage rising to about 6.8 percent.

The board also voted to renew membership in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) for 2024–25. The resolution text cited Minnesota statute language for authorizing school participation in interscholastic athletics and required the board to certify adoption of the league’s constitution, bylaws and rules. The board accepted the written resignation of a member identified in the record as “Bailey.” During comments of thanks the transcript also includes the name “Marissa,” both referenced by board members in close succession when the resignation was acknowledged. The board then voted to fill the short-term vacancy by appointment at the July meeting; that interim appointment will run through December, with the seat appearing on the November general-election ballot as a shorter-term special seat.
