Staff member Chris told the board that petitioner Yates Metcom requested the change to allow construction services that build large facilities such as shopping centers, hospitals and parking garages in the heavy industrial district. He said the planning board reviewed the request and recommended approval as compatible with existing heavy industrial uses.
Commissioners debated compatibility and practical implications for the zoning map. Commissioner (speaker 6) moved to approve the ordinance; the chair seconded, and the board adopted the amendment by voice vote. Chris noted the change would align the heavy industrial district with uses already allowed in the general business and light industrial districts.
No members of the public signed up to speak during the public hearing, and staff did not identify additional procedural steps required before the amendment takes effect.
