The City of Fenton Board of Aldermen heard multiple capital-improvement items and acted on several. Staff reported a roughly $5,000 increase to the prefabricated restaurant/restroom bid for the Fabic Nature Preserve to upgrade to stainless-steel fixtures; the earlier freestanding estimate from two years ago was $187,000 and did not include site work, plumbing or parking upgrades. Staff said those site costs will be estimated after the existing shed is removed and recommended either donating or demolishing the old structure if no taker is found. The board directed staff to seek demo bids if necessary and voted to forward the updated bid and shed direction to the full board.
The board also reviewed options for power-outage protection at the Riverchase YMCA; staff are collecting formal quotes and the council voted to continue the item to next month while staff returns with formal estimates.
For park amenities, council considered two quotes for a drinking fountain at the new pickleball courts (one vendor quoted around $8,900) and approved the bid from Shamrock, noting pad size and installation details will affect final cost.
Finally, staff recommended rejecting the single glazing/renovation bid received for the Riverchase YMCA to return the bidder’s bond and potentially rebid the project later. The board voted to reject the single bid.
What happens next: The Fabic preservation bid and shed direction move to the full board for final approval; staff will return with formal generator/backup quotes for the YMCA and will solicit demo bids or donation options for the shed if no takers are found.
