Holmdel updates: new middle-school media center, internship placements, robotics meet and dual-enrollment expansions

At the middle school, administrators described a newly re-created satellite library called the Collaboratorium that circulated more than 30 independent-reading books in a month and is being used as a media center for independent reading programs. The ESL office hosted a family night in late October to celebrate English-language learners and the Village School plans a third-grade heritage parade to showcase student cultural backgrounds.
Career-readiness programs drew substantial attention: a high-school internship program has placed about 30 students this year in placements ranging from healthcare (cardiology, dermatology, dentistry) to technology, theater, and small business management, administrators said. The district will host its first robotics competition at Village School on Nov. 1, and some classes used generative AI tools for game-design storyboarding.
On postsecondary collaboration, two music classes received approval for Brookdale dual-enrollment credit and the district is in talks with Stockton University to expand dual-enrollment options in acting, art and dance. Math-mobility technology funded by the Holmdel Foundation for Education (HFE) equipped secondary classrooms and is already affecting instructional practice, administrators said.
No board actions were taken; trustees praised the programs and the committee-of-the-whole format for increasing transparency.
