Superintendent: PTA donation, staff training and back-to-school nights ahead of first day

"Mrs. Roski, thank you for arranging that for us and getting us ahead of the curve," Grande said.
Grande listed scheduled back-to-school nights: Clark Preschool Annex on Monday, Sept. 9; Carl H. Kempf on Thursday, Sept. 12; Valley Road School on Monday, Sept. 16; Frank K. Henley on Wednesday, Sept. 18; and ALJ on Thursday, Sept. 19 — all at 7 p.m. He noted the district posted ELL (English language learner) state testing results on the district website under curriculum, technology and assessment and said "the majority of our students scored at a level 3, which is considered to be developing out of a scale of 6."
Grande closed by thanking the board for its support and wishing staff well for the opening day: "We're thrilled about our first day tomorrow being with students, and we’re anticipating — knock on wood — smooth openings."
The superintendent’s report consisted of operational items meant to prepare staff and families for the start of the school year; no formal board action was required on these announcements.
