Coffeyville approves demolition bids and sets a show-cause hearing for deteriorating downtown building

Resolution R2474: Code enforcement officer Angie Stevens presented a single bid from Swindell Excavation for $112,400 to demolish 13 blighted structures that staff said are disconnected from utilities and ready for demolition. Staff noted the demolitions are part of an ongoing campaign; commissioners approved the resolution unanimously.
Resolution R2476: City attorney Paul Kreitz described structural failure of a wall on a building south of the old fire department building owned by LDG Rentals LLC. The wall has continued to crumble and is damaging the city—s adjacent fire-department property. The commission adopted Resolution R2476 setting a show-cause hearing for Nov. 12, 2024, and directed staff to provide notice to LDG Rentals, counsel and the mortgage holder, Community National Bank and Trust.
Commissioners said demolitions and enforcement help stabilize neighborhoods and noted the city has demolished 21 homes so far and plans further packets of parcels to reach an ambitious longer-term goal of 100 homes removed or remediated. Both resolutions passed on recorded unanimous ayes.
