Resident urges commissioners to support citizen vote to restore Utah’s former state flag

During public comment at the end of the meeting, Terry Bishop identified himself as one of five original signers of an initiative to restore Utah's previous state flag and said he is collecting signatures to put the question to voters. Bishop told commissioners that former Gov. Gary Herbert has signed the petition and said many residents prefer the older flag and want a public vote on the matter. "When I go out and collect signatures ... they don't even like the new flag," Bishop said, and he asked county officials to support giving voters a choice.
The commission responded that a replacement flag for inside the chamber had been ordered and that staff were locating it; no formal action was taken related to Bishop's request during the meeting.
Bishop also said the Republican delegate committee had passed a resolution supporting the initiative. Commissioners did not take a position at the meeting and proceeded to close the session and adjourn.
