The Champlain Valley Unified School District HR committee presented its recommended timeline and public‑engagement plan for the permanent superintendent search on Sept. 17.
The committee proposed a phased process: application intake; an initial vetting and reduction of the applicant pool by the facilitator; an interview panel composed of HR committee board members plus one administrator, one faculty member, one staff member and one community member for the full‑panel interview round; and then a narrowed set of finalists who would visit campuses and participate in a public forum before full‑board final interviews.
The committee discussed selection criteria, the possibility of alternates for panelists and transparency about panel roles. Two Google forms will open for community members this week: one to apply for panel participation and another to collect general input about desired superintendent qualities. Committee members agreed to use survey responses, optional rubrics and a randomized component to balance fairness and thoughtfulness in panel selection.
Why it matters: the board aims to complete the search and select a new superintendent before town meeting day and the budget vote to ensure continuity and to inform the community prior to elections. The HR committee stressed clarity about the final decision-making authority: the full CVSD board will make the ultimate hiring decision after reviewing committee recommendations and finalist interviews.
Next steps: forms and outreach will be posted this week; the HR committee will finalize a rubric and clarify expected time commitments for panelists before selections are made.
