SAN FRANCISCO
Clean Power SF staff told the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission on July 10 that the community choice aggregation program was continuing steady enrollment and outreach as it expands service.
Michael Himes, director of Clean Power SF, said the program was serving roughly 81,000 active accounts with a cumulative opt-out rate of about 3.2 percent and that approximately 3,400 accounts (4.2 percent of enrolled accounts) had chosen the "super green" 100-percent renewable option. "Beginning this month, Clean Power SF will start serving an additional 27,000 commercial and residential customers," Himes said, and staff had already mailed two of four required enrollment notices and sent a joint PG&E/Clean Power SF rate mailer to roughly 115,000 customers.
The mailer, Himes said, shows that participation could save customers roughly 2 percent on generation supply costs by choosing Clean Power SF's green supply product. Commissioners asked whether opt-out mailers give customers the option to enroll in the Super Green product; Himes confirmed they do, and noted steady weekly sign-ups and ongoing outreach including street-level engagement and a new website.
Why it matters: The expansion brings Clean Power SF's served accounts closer to a much larger potential base in the city, and enrollment strategy, opt-out rates and outreach will shape near-term program finances and customer uptake of renewable options.
What officials said: Commissioners praised the report and asked staff to continue pushing outreach to the estimated 300,000 remaining city accounts described in public comment. Himes said staff was pursuing commercial signings and expected to announce larger commercial enrollments in coming weeks.
Next steps: Staff will provide the joint rate mailer in the next commission packet as a communications item and return with regulatory or enrollment updates at future meetings.
