The Commission set aside time on May 23 to recognize Noreen Ambrose on her impending retirement. Commissioners and former colleagues recounted Ambrose’s long service — noting her arrival in the mid‑2000s, work across major infrastructure programs, and ability to marshal legal advice and institutional memory for SFPUC projects.
Speakers described Ambrose as meticulous, grounded and instrumental across projects including WISP, CISIP and contract negotiations. Harlan Harrington and others praised her for assembling the right legal advice, helping the Commission navigate complex property and litigation matters, and supporting large public works and redevelopment efforts. Several speakers made personal remarks about Ambrose’s steady presence and counsel over many years. Ambrose, who said she came to the PUC from the Port and had worked with the Planning Commission earlier in her career, thanked commissioners, staff and counsel and said she would remain interested in PUC matters even after retirement.
The Commission noted a resolution will be issued and arranged for a photograph to mark the occasion. No formal action beyond recognition was taken.
Next steps: a formal resolution and photo opportunity were arranged; commissioners and staff will follow up with farewells and retain informal contact with Ambrose.
