Park commissioners approve accessibility upgrades, Zamboni rental, pool liner and garden repairs

Staff recommended an $88,672 contract with Building Associates Inc. to install ADA‑compliant doors at the Addison Jukebox Community Center, the Banneker Community Center and the Frank Southern facility. “All accessible door must meet ADA standards,” staff said when presenting the proposal. Commissioners approved the contract by roll call.
The board also approved a lease with CTM Service Inc. for an Olympia ice resurfacer after staff reported the arena’s existing Zamboni was out of service and that purchasing a replacement would cost about $270,000. Staff said the rental carries a monthly debt fee of $2,950 and was secured so the rink could re‑open; commissioners approved the rental agreement by roll call.
Staff recommended contracting Renosys to replace a cracked liner at Bryant Park Pool, with the contractor committing to complete the work by April 15, 2025 so the pool can be readied for the season. A staff member said typical liners last 15–20 years and that contractors remove the old liner so pool depth remains unchanged; the board approved the contract.
A separate ARPA‑funded contract of $10,000 was approved for Clark’s Concrete to demolish and replace the Butler Gardens stairway with an ADA‑compliant stair and handrails.
Each motion was moved, seconded and carried by roll call; recorded votes on the items show Kathleen Mills, Israel Herrera and Jim Whitlatch voting "Aye." The agenda packet and staff presentations provided the background for the approvals, and staff answered commissioners’ questions about timelines, funding sources and contract selection.
