Los Alamitos staff list roughly $11 million in grants and outline park and street projects

City staff told the Los Alamitos City Council on Sept. 23 that the city has secured about $11 million in grant funding in the last 18 months and outlined a series of major capital and community projects.
The staff list included $2.5 million in state funding for the Los Alamitos Community Center—crediting Senator Janet Wynn and Mayor Dobie for help securing that allocation—$580,000 for Bloomfield safety improvements, $1,000,000 in federal funds for fire-station improvements, $5,000,000 for Pine Street reconstruction, and approximately $1,900,000 from SCAG/OCTA for "Project B." City staff said the grants are the result of collaborative effort across departments and outside partners.
Staff detailed parks work: Stearns Park construction resumed after an endangered hawk nested at the site and is slated for completion in December 2024; Labradet Park will go to construction after an RFP with work expected to start in November and finish in April 2025; Saroptimus Park (Old Town West) will use Prop 68 funds for play equipment and rubberized surfacing with a parks commission selection upcoming.
Transportation projects include a $2,000,000 residential street project (curb, gutter, grinding, overlay, slurry) with a precon meeting slated immediately and construction estimated Oct–Dec, and La Salle and Lexington striping work tied to the city—s active-transportation plan. Staff warned that a Southern California Edison vault project on Los Alamitos Boulevard and Green Street will reduce three lanes to one for approximately four weeks with 24-hour traffic control; message boards and notices will be deployed.
Staff also previewed a canine-program presentation for the next meeting and highlighted Celebrate La Salle community events and volunteer efforts.
Staff said that continued modernization of internal systems (record digitization) will help streamline project tracking and invoice delivery.
