The Town Council of the Town of Southwest Ranches voted at a special meeting to authorize the town administrator to prepare and submit an application to the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) to help fund playground renovations at Sunshine Ranches Equestrian Park. The council approved Resolution No. 3 unanimously after brief discussion and a public comment in support.
The resolution, read into the record by town staff, authorizes the mayor, the town administrator and the town attorney to enter any agreements necessary to effectuate the grant application and related contracts. A staff member confirmed the grant application requires a 25% local match from the town.
During the public-comment period, resident Lori Parrish of Loray Road said she attended the homeowners association meeting and that the association voted to support the application. "The homeowners association approved, supporting the grant," Parrish said. Parrish also said the neighborhood approval vote took place on September 30.
An unidentified council member moved to approve the resolution and an unidentified speaker seconded. The council then conducted a roll call vote; Mayor Bridal Crews, Vice Mayor Kaczynski and the three council members present voted yes and the motion passed. No members recorded a nay, abstention or recusal.
The meeting adjourned shortly after the vote. Council members scheduled a five-minute recess before a subsequent special meeting at 6:50 p.m.
What happens next: Authorization allows the town administrator to prepare and file the FRDAP application and execute any required agreements if the grant is awarded. The resolution sets no funding commitment beyond the acknowledged 25% local match requirement and does not itself appropriate funds.
