The Stayton City Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 1069, a code amendment that expands eligibility for the Public Arts Commission to include either residents or business/property owners in the city. The change was proposed to address difficulty filling commission seats and to broaden the pool of potential members.
Staff told the council the code amendment would permit someone who owns property in Stayton — even if they do not live there — to serve on the commission. Councilors expressed support: one said the change was "a step in the right direction" to help the commission become fully staffed. A roll call was requested because the item is an ordinance; the clerk recorded the vote and announced "Motion passes. 5 0."
Council also noted that two openings remain on the Public Arts Commission following the appointment of Kim Dwyer. The council did not amend the ordinance at the meeting and approved it as presented.
