Fenton receives Missouri conservation grants; forestry contract to remove invasives approved

City parks staff told the advisory board the city was awarded two grants from the Missouri Department of Conservation. Nikki said one grant—the larger Phase 2 award for the Fayette Nature Preserve—was for approximately $3,939,000 to support turf restoration and continued invasive-species removal. The second grant will fund pruning and removal work as part of efforts to develop an arboretum candidate area.
Staff also described contracting with Homestead Forestry for invasive-species clearing. Dan said the vendor will clear and mulch honeysuckle and other invasives along woodland perimeters; staff noted the price compared favorably to purchasing a forestry cutter (cited at $175,000). Mulched material will be left on site and timing is planned between managed deer hunts to reduce conflict with scheduled closures.
The board was reminded the first managed deer hunt will close parts of the nature preserve this weekend and staff will post signage as planned.
