Evansville City Council approved two public-works items on Oct. 24: an interlocal agreement with Vanderburgh County for asphalt preservation treatment and an amendment to the Crosspoint Roundabout design contract to add lighting design.
City engineers described the interlocal agreement as an economy-of-scale arrangement that will allow the city and county to achieve better unit prices for preventive pavement sealing and extend pavement life. The agreement was presented with a total contract amount of $185,000 and approved by voice vote. Engineers estimated that, combined, the two governments might cover roughly 400,000 square yards of treatment under the program.
Separately, council approved Amendment No. 1 with Lochmuller Group Inc., increasing the professional-services contract by $24,600 specifically for lighting design of the Crosspoint Roundabout and its approaches. Engineering staff said the work replaces an existing private 'shoe-box' lighting system installed with the original development and will install standard city street lighting; they also said the design is intended to be built in coordination with INDOT’s construction schedule for the adjacent expressway intersection.
Both items were approved by voice votes. City engineering staff said the roundabout project budget is approximately $3.1 million; the amendment is design-phase work to prepare the project for construction when INDOT’s schedule permits.
