The Evansville City Council on Oct. 24 approved an amendment request from the Evansville Climate Collaborative to expand energy audits for city facilities.
ECC staff told council the original contract with Commedia Environmental Inc. covered audits for four to six city buildings at a figure discussed in the meeting as $8,450. The collaborative requested adding audits for six more buildings at an additional $9,200; staff said those additional funds would come from the ECC contractual services budget. In the meeting transcript staff described the audits as being “fully funded by the US Department of Energy” and referenced related grant labels, though the funding-label text in the record was unclear.
ECC staff explained the audits will document current energy use at city facilities, prioritize improvements and inform an energy-consumption strategic plan intended to reduce city energy use and costs. When council members asked about the arithmetic, staff said per-building audit costs vary based on building size and energy use. The transcript also records a ‘‘new total contract amount will be $92,060,’’ a figure that appears inconsistent with the itemized numbers given during the same exchange; the meeting record does not reconcile that total.
Council approved the amendment by voice vote. DMD/ECC staff will administer the audits and report findings back to council as required by the grant and internal project timelines.
