The board approved contracts for two Performing Arts Center productions and tabled two others while administrators clarified liability and hotel arrangements. Speaker 5 described recent work with a new PAC director and asked the board to approve remaining contracts for four scheduled productions, while tabling contracts for Broadway and Beyond and Black Oak pending liability/hotel details.
A board member raised questions about contract provisions requiring hotel rooms for band members and who would be liable for incidental charges. Speaker 5 agreed to strike alcohol-service language from one contract and to return in September with clarified hotel-liability language for the two tabled contracts. The board approved motions to move forward with the Wambys and Highway 36 productions by voice vote.
In a separate request, Speaker 5 proposed an 18-month partnership with Hirons to help the district "tell our story" and address enrollment trends. The proposal would have Hirons work with district communications staff, principals and teachers beginning in September through March 2026 to refine outreach and community engagement. The board heard the request and the administrator said the engagement would begin in September if approved.
Next steps: administration will return with clarified contract language on hotel liability and finalize scope and contract details with Hirons for board consideration.
