Grant County sets new yard-waste rates, authorizes $120,295 recycle building contract pending council approval

Grant County commissioners on Sept. 3 approved a new policy for the county recycle center that will, beginning Oct. 1, limit yard-waste acceptance from commercial accounts and set resident rates: up to 8 feet $20; 8 to 20 feet $40; over 20 feet $100. Commissioner Rice moved to approve the change and the board adopted the motion by voice vote.
Highway staff reported increased contractor deliveries of brush and recommended requiring proof of Grant County residency and the new fee schedule to reduce commercial use of the facility. The board discussed formalizing the rates in policy and asked staff to provide clear resident-proof requirements.
The highway department also presented two vendor quotes for replacing the recycle building cover. Greystone Construction quoted $120,295; a competing quote was higher. County representatives moved to give Mr. White authority to contract with Greystone for $120,295 pending council approval of the appropriation; the motion passed by voice vote.
Highway staff provided updates on trail paving and brush grinding schedules and said bridge-inspection proposals from seven consultants had been submitted; staff will score submissions and forward the top selection to INDOT for contract approval.
Next steps: staff will implement the new yard-waste customer verification and fee schedule on Oct. 1, finalize contract language pending council appropriation, and return to commissioners with procurement documents as required.
