Grant County approves school resource officer MOU with Oak Hill

Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding to continue a shared school resource officer position at Oak Hill, following a presentation from the sheriff and confirmation that the county attorney reviewed the agreement.
Sheriff Garcia asked the board on Sept. 16 to approve adjustments to the school resource officer (SRO) agreement between Oak Hill United School Corporation, Gas City and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.
Garcia said staff made contractual changes after the county and partner entities reviewed last year’s arrangement; he asked commissioners to approve the updated MOU so the county can continue participating in the three-way partnership to place an SRO at Oak Hill. A commissioner confirmed the county attorney had reviewed the document. A motion to approve the MOU was made and seconded; the board approved it by voice vote.
The sheriff noted some amount adjustments were required because of actual days worked by SROs at the school. Commissioners did not request further revisions during the meeting.
Next steps: county and school officials will proceed under the terms of the revised MOU; county staff did not indicate additional board action required at the Sept. 16 meeting.
