Saginaw council names citizen bond committee, schedules three meetings ahead of possible May election

The Saginaw City Council voted to move forward with a citizens’ bond committee that will review potential projects for voters. City manager Gabe Brantley told the council that the plan calls for roughly three meetings: an initial session to review city finances and an animal‑shelter facility assessment, a December meeting focused on streets and parks, and a January meeting to finalize recommendations.
Brantley said the committee will include several nominees submitted by council members and that a bond counsel would review any proposed ballot language. He told the council that if members wish to hold a May bond election, the council would need to take formal action by the first February meeting or call a special meeting because the deadline to call a May election falls on a Friday that month.
A council member moved to proceed with the bond selection process and the motion was seconded by Paul; the motion passed. Brantley said staff will lead scheduling and that the first meetings will likely be led by Kim and Lee for animal‑shelter matters and public‑works staff for streets and parks.
