The Legislative Education Study Committee accepted the resignation of Director Gwen Perea Ornaman, who has accepted a new position at the LANL Foundation.
Chair Andres Romero moved to accept the resignation and the committee approved the action without objection. Representative Joy Garrett moved that Deputy Director John Cena be appointed interim director; the motion passed with no objection and Cena assumed interim duties immediately.
Chair Romero outlined the replacement process: the committee is accepting applications and cover letters (posted on the legislative employment site) through early October; if a large number of applicants apply a subcommittee of voting and advisory members will be convened to screen candidates and produce a shortlist for interviews at a subsequent meeting in Santa Fe.
What’s next: The committee will circulate job materials and schedule interviews of shortlisted candidates; a final appointment will be made by voting members after the vetting process.
