The Evansville Common Council accepted the 2024 compliance report for tax phase-in incentives (tax abatement) during its July 22 meeting.
Patrick Hickey of the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (eRep) summarized the compliance process used to verify that incentive recipients met the benchmarks listed on their SB-1 forms (property investment, job creation and salaries). Hickey said most companies met reporting requirements; two companies had letters explaining why they fell short of the 90% benchmark in two of three criteria and eRep judged the explanations reasonable.
Hickey also noted four companies in the packet had not yet begun work but remained within the allowable time to start construction; eRep highlighted those entries for future monitoring. After questions from council members, a motion to approve the tax phase-in compliance reports was moved and seconded, and the council approved the recommendation without objection.
The compliance findings keep the listed taxpayers eligible for scheduled tax phase-in incentives for the coming year while staff will continue to monitor projects that have not yet begun construction.
